Get the app

Friendlies is coming to the App Store and Google Play. Until then, testers get it through TestFlight or a Play internal test link from the club owner.

Your data

What's collected, who can see it, and how to delete it: Privacy policy.

Invites and members

I've been sent a join link. What do I do?

Install Friendlies first, then tap the link (it looks like friendlies.cloud/join?token=…). The app opens, asks you to sign in if you haven't, and the club appears. If the link opened in a browser instead, tap Copy invite link on that page, then open Friendlies and choose Join a club and paste it.

How do I invite players to my club?

On Home, tap Invite players (or the club's settings → Members & invites) and share the join link or its QR code. Anyone who opens it becomes a member of the club. Links can be revoked from the same screen.

What can members do, and what is an editor?

A member sees the club's fixtures, results, squad and stats, replies to matches, and can add their own match distance. An editor can also pick teams, score matches and log results. The owner promotes a member with Allow editing on the Members screen (or Make editor when they first join); the member gets a notification.

Only the owner can edit the club itself, its roster, or delete it.

Someone joined but their stats aren't showing on their profile.

Joining makes them a member; it doesn't automatically say which roster player they are. The owner links them from the player's profile under Linked player, which connects their account to their history, RSVPs and distance.

How do I leave a club?

Open the club's settings from Home (the gear button) and tap Leave club. The club's data is removed from your devices. Owners can't leave their own club, but can hand it to another member with Make owner, or delete it.

Signing in and your data

Which sign-in should I use?

Friendlies supports Sign in with Apple and Google on both iPhone and Android. Keep using the same one: your account is tied to the provider you first signed in with. Signing in with a different provider only finds the same account if the two share the same verified email, which Apple's "Hide My Email" prevents.

Do I need an account at all?

You can run a club on one device without signing in. Signing in is what backs your data up, syncs it across your devices and lets you share the club or join someone else's.

I got a new phone. Where's my club?

Sign in with the same provider as before and everything is restored from the cloud: clubs, squads, matches and stats. Anything that never synced from the old device (for example, a match scored while it was offline) needs that device to come online once.

How do I delete my account?

Go to the Account tab and tap Delete account. It removes your profile, the clubs you own, your memberships, replies and distance records immediately and permanently. Match facts in clubs you don't own (a goal you scored, say) stay in that club's history with your account unlinked. Details in the privacy policy.

Replies, teams and scoring

How do RSVPs work?

Every upcoming match has In, Maybe and Out. Reply from the Home card or the match itself. Owners and editors see who hasn't replied and can tap Remind all to nudge them (once every six hours). Replies disappear once the match has been played; they're for organising, not history.

Pick Teams put someone on the bench I know is coming.

The bench starts from replies: confirmed Ins are ready to pick, Maybe and no-reply players sit under Unconfirmed, and Outs under Replied out. Any of them can be added to a side by hand. Auto-balance only reshuffles players already placed on the two sides, so what you picked is what gets split.

Can I record a result without running the live clock?

Yes. On an upcoming match with teams picked, choose Log result. The match is marked as played and you can enter the score, scorers and assists after the fact. Goal times are left blank when they aren't known.

Which clubs appear on my Apple Watch?

Clubs you own, plus shared clubs where you're an editor. The Watch scores offline and hands the match to the phone, which syncs it to everyone. Editors need the phone online to send results.

The weather is missing on a match.

Weather is captured on iPhone at kick-off when the match finishes, and a forecast is shown on upcoming matches. Android shows the weather recorded by an iPhone but doesn't fetch its own, so a club scored only on Android has none.

Apple Health and Health Connect

How do I add how far I ran?

Open a finished match you played in and tap Add on the "Your distance" card. The app reads your walking and running distance for that match's window from Apple Health or Health Connect and saves a single figure. Nothing is read until you tap Add, and Remove deletes it. Account → Match distance lets you catch up several past matches at once.

It says no distance was found, but my watch recorded a run.

On iPhone this usually means Friendlies lacks read permission for Distance. Apple doesn't let apps see whether a read was denied, so it looks the same as an empty result. Open Apple Health → Sharing → Apps → Friendlies and enable Walking + Running Distance, then try Add again. On Android, check the Health Connect permission and that your fitness app writes distance to Health Connect.

Who can see my distance?

Members of that club, next to your name on the match's squad sheet, only for matches where you chose to add it. Nobody else's health data is ever read by the app.

Reminders, pushes and mutes

What notifications will I get?
  • A reminder about 30 minutes before kick-off, unless you replied Out.
  • The final score when a club's match finishes.
  • An availability request when a match is scheduled or the owner taps Remind all.
  • Owners: when someone joins via their invite. Members: when they're made an editor or handed ownership.
How do I quieten a club without leaving it?

Open the club's settings from Home and switch off Match alerts. Match results, availability requests and kick-off reminders for that club stop; you still see everything in the app. Kick-off reminders for all clubs can be turned off under Account → Match reminders.

When something looks wrong

A result or reply isn't showing on my phone.

Pull down on the Matches list to sync. If it's still missing, check the device that made the change has been online since; changes made offline wait there until it is.

The join link opens a web page instead of the app.

Make sure the app is installed, then use the page's Copy invite link button and paste it into Join a club inside Friendlies. On Android, if links keep opening in the browser, go to the system settings for Friendlies and allow it to open friendlies.cloud links.

Reporting a bug

Email jonny@friendlies.cloud with the app version (shown at the bottom of the Account tab), the device, what you did and what you saw. Screenshots help. The quickest way is Account → Send feedback in the app: it fills in your app version, device and the last sync status for you, which helps with anything about missing or mismatched data.
